Since 1877, St. Mary's has been caring for
Rhode Island's children. While receiving some support
from
the Episcopal Diocese, we are a secular, non-profit agency
offering comprehensive treatment programs for boys and
girls traumatized by abuse or experiencing the challenges of
psychiatric disorders. Children are treated and cared for in both the residential,
educational and out-patient programs located in North
Providence, Rhode Island.
At St. Mary's, we focus on treatment and
healing while providing support and skills necessary for the
preservation
of families, with programs tailored to the diverse
requirements of our clients. Whether you are an individual
whose child requires special attention, or a representative of a
business or government agency, we welcome you to discover more
about what our services can do for you and the children you care
about.

Vision
St. Mary's Home for Children
is dedicated to helping children who have been affected by
violence in their homes or communities and/or who have
behavioral health issues. Our vision is to provide the
opportunity for each child in our care to become a healthy
adult, capable of healthy relationships. Our programs focus on
providing children with the skills and strengths they need to
cope with family, school and social environments. We provide
families with appropriate supports as they strive to create
healthy relationships. We seek to provide children in our
care with positive and lasting relationships with adult role
models and a permanent home base that they can return to as they
need us. We seek to build a strong sense of self worth and
raised aspirations for what each child can become.
Mission
Our mission is to create an
environment of healing and hope for those we serve. Children and

History
St. Mary's Home for Children
opened its doors in 1877 as an orphanage within the Episcopal
Diocese. Reverend Daniel Ingallis Odell was rector of St. Mary's
Church in East Providence, Rhode Island when a couple in the
parish died leaving two children. During the same winter,
another couple died leaving five children. Father Odell took
them in and provided for their care. St. Mary's has always been
a non-profit agency, committed to serving the changing needs of
children and families.
In 1879, St. Mary's became in
incorporated institution, under the name of St. Mary's
Orphanage, governed by a Board of Trustees, with the Bishop of
